Icy Day at Newfound Lake.

Dave and Kevin joined Mooney Mountain Guides for a day of ice climbing. Daves folks have a home on Newfound Lake so we decided to take a short drive and approach to climb at the ledges area. The routes are all in good shape with four main lines ready to go. The sudden plummet of temperatures made the ice hard and brittle. Our day started with a refresher of skills then we climbed two routes called Bloodline and Duofold.

The Lake is unfrozen quite unusual at this time of year.

Our first top rope as skills were learned and refreshed.

Look at this - climbing with out tools - this puts the focus on much needed footwork.

The intentional rope offset to climb side by side.

Duofold has a steep challenging curtain of ice. Another great day on the ice.

Thanks to Dave and Kevin.
